MAMMOGRAPHY/MRI OF THE BREAST

Shockingly, it is estimated that 35-40% of women in Ohio, over age 40, have not had a mammogram in the past year. Regular screening mammogram decreases the death rate from breast cancer by 20% or more. Secondary to Mammography, MRI of the breast has gained widespread acceptance in the detection of and staging of breast cancer and other breast abnormalities.  Annual screening MR Mammography is recommended for those who have a 20-25% lifetime risk of breast cancer, women with genetic mutations including the BRCA 1 & 2 mutation, and for women who have a first degree relative with breast Cancer.

UTERINE FIBROID EMBOLIZATION (UFE)

Uterine Fibroids afflict 20-40% of women over the age of 35. UFE is an image-guided procedure that diminishes troubling fibroid-associated symptoms including excessive bleeding, pelvic pain and pressure and bulk-related discomfort, without surgery.  Under a local anesthetic, the physician guides a catheter into the artery that feeds the fibroid.  Tiny microspheres are injected and block the blood flow to the fibroid which causes it to shrink. UFE preserves the uterus and offers relief of symptoms within one or two menstrual cycles. PRI has some of the most experienced physicians in the country treating patients with UFE.

CALCIUM SCORING/CORONARY CT ANGIOGRAPHY (CTA)

According to the American Heart Association one in three women have some form of cardiovascular disease. The calcium scoring test is one of the most accurate preliminary tests used to help diagnose heart disease by detecting the amount of plaque that may be blocking your arteries. Coronary CTA is a revolutionary method of diagnosis, allowing physicians to visualize the arteries of the heart. With the latest advances in high resolution scanning, a 64-slice or 256-slice CT scanner can create highly detailed and accurate images of the heart and coronary arteries in seconds. This means easier, non-invasive diagnosis of chest symptoms and earlier detection of developing problems, even before symptoms have started.

ENDOVENOUS LASER ABLASION (EVLT/EVLA)/SCLEROTHERAPY

PRI’s Cincinnati Vein Specialists provide less invasive, non-surgical procedures to patients suffering from unsightly varicose or spider veins. EVLA/ELVT and Sclerotherapy require little or no recovery time, have a low risk of complication, and are done in a comfortable clinic environment. Vein clinic physicians use a Doppler ultrasound to find the source of the patient’s varicosity.  EVLA/EVLT treats the afflicting vein and essentially cures the source of visibly damaged veins. The average patient requires Sclerotherapy in addition to the EVLA/EVLT treatment to treat the small veins. Therefore it is vital to choose a treatment provider such as PRI, who is equally skilled in both treatments to ensure optimal results.

PAIN MANAGEMENT

Inflammatory reaction is one of the body’s initial responses to an injury or trauma.  This reaction serves an important purpose in that it reminds the patient to protect the injured area; however it eventually becomes counterproductive and may lead to chronic pain, stiffness and decreased mobility of the joint. In addition inflammatory joint conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, tendonitis, bursitis and osteoarthritis can cause similar issues.  A common treatment for this type of joint pain is to inject a corticosteroid into the inflamed joint.  The treatment has two distinct benefits. First, the patient receives immediate relief from the anesthetic included in the injection. It then reduces the inflammation, which gives the body a chance to heal. 

VERTEBROPLASTY/KYPHOPLASTY

Kyphoplasty, Vertebroplasty, and Vertebral augmentation are minimally invasive treatments for patients with osteoporotic or cancer related Vertebral Compression Fractures (VCFs). The clinical benefits of all three procedures include pain relief, angular deformity correction, sustained and considerable improvement in quality of life and a low complication rate.  The goal of treating VCFs with Interventional procedures is to relieve pain and to partially restore vertebral body height at the site of fracture.

PET (POSITRON EMISSION TOMOGRAPHY)

Pet scan is utilized in the medical imaging of tumors and the search for metastases, or cancer that has spread to different parts of the body.  CT (Computed Tomography) has been the standard imaging modality for evaluating cancer but provides only anatomic information. When PET and CT are combined, both functional and anatomic information about cancer is provided in a unique single fused image set. PET/CT clearly changes the treatment and long term survival rate for cancer patients.
